A person may explore a career change for a variety of reasons. Maybe you don’t feel fulfilled, or you don’t think there’s any more opportunity for improvement. Others may not strike a good work-life balance in their current situation. One such transition was made by the influencer and blogger Sylvia Fountaine. While talking to us, she revealed that the transition from restaurant owner, to caterer to food blogger was natural, easy and a blessing.
Sylvia was working as a wedding caterer before she turned full-time blogger. Before that she owned a bustling restaurant for 10 years. Being a chef was fulfilling career-wise, but could also be very intense and stressful. As she got older, it became more difficult to maintain a work-life balance with these businesses. Sylvia wanted to keep her passion for food but also enjoy a stress-free professional life. So she stepped into food blogging, a decision that she never regretted. Surprisingly food blogging is a lucrative business, and one that is sustainable. Teaching people how to cook restaurant quality meals brings her so much joy and satisfaction.
According to Sylvia, pursue what brings you the most pleasure and contentment. If you love it, you will truly want to learn as much as possible and be the best. Then figure out how to monetize it. With the internet, the whole wide world becomes your customer, or client.
Also, career decisions do not have to be made for the rest of one’s life. People can transition into different occupations and sectors when their interests and circumstances change. It’s important to listen to your own curiosity.
Sylvia further advises that consider the “why” in your career choice. Having a solid “why”, gets you through any challenging times. It gives you the grit it sometime takes to succeed. Consider the place where your “highest good” meets “what the world needs”.
Find this place and you will be successful, no matter what you do.
