The world is filled with people never given a chance to reach their potential owing to life’s inevitable hurdles. The possibilities of what could be achieved by these individuals if given their opportunities are limitless, not only for them but for the collective progress of a society that is inclusive and hence sustainable. So believes Makeba White Chanay, the fiercely ambitious woman behind the B1 Ventures & Holdings, Inc. and HER Philosophy.
B1 Ventures & Holdings is a healthcare management firm headquartered in Pearl, Mississippi. Owned and operated by a woman belonging to a minority, the venture specializes in providing quality services to care for the elderly, disabled, and those in need. Makeba serves as the Chairperson of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of B1 Ventures and Holdings and remains dedicated to her goal of facilitating and uplifting people to live better lives.
Born and raised in Forest, Mississippi, She graduated from Hinds Community College with a degree in Practical Degree and received a Nursing License from the MS State Board of Nursing. Coming from a family of entrepreneurs, Makeba dreamt of starting her own business. In the aftermath of an unexpected turn of events in her personal life, her faith in God motivated her to pursue her lifelong dream. Like a rose growing from concrete, Makeba refused to be phased by the challenges.
In 2011, her journey began with the idea of starting a home care service. After several years of planning and undeterred efforts, Makeba embarked on a course to help others through the extensions of her business B1 Ventures & Holdings. B1 Nursing Care, LLC was formalized in 2016 to provide extensive home care services and day-to-day assistance for the elderly and disabled.
Mississippi School of Health Services & Careers was established in 2018 to provide educational opportunities to students and guide them on career paths, ensuring their success. Makeba believes everyone deserves a chance at education. Therefore B1 Ventures & Holdings is dedicated to supporting students through scholarships and providing opportunities for the unhoused population through their non-profit 501c3, B1 Foundation.
The school offers certificate programs in the Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Medical Billing & Coding, Phlebotomy, and CPR. It also provides certificates and CEUs in COVID-19 and Community Healthcare Worker Training. Proud of being a medium that has helped change lives, B1 Ventures and Holdings aims to expand its territory in the adjoining states of Arkansas, Alabama, and Louisiana.
Makeba is a fine example of what women can achieve if they refuse to be constrained by socio-cultural barriers. Besides being an accomplished entrepreneur celebrated as a business visionary and community leader, she is a proud wife, mother, and grandmother who credits her family for being a source of support and inspiration. She is grateful to her husband, Dr. Marcus A Chanay, for his contribution as the man behind the successful woman she is.
