Traveling is about having fun and seeing new things, but it can become tedious. If you’re careful with your budget, it may make the whole trip much more manageable, leaving you with little room to actually enjoy the journey. Luckily, there are ways to make travel affordable – even if we’re talking about going somewhere with the whole family! We’ve gathered advice from Julie and Zach Ruhl, who have been traveling together for a few years now and have grown from a family of two to three thanks to their beautiful daughter Indie. Here’s their advice on how to stay within your budget while traveling with the whole gang:
Think about why you want to travel
Zach and Julie say it’s essential to have a goal in mind when planning a family vacation. For example, if you want to see the Grand Canyon and don’t have time or money for a big backpacking trip through Europe, then a road trip through Arizona is more your style.
If money’s tight but still significant, it may be necessary to settle for less than what you would typically spend on an adventure like this.
Plan accordingly
The top advice from the Ruhls of the Roads is to take time to plan. It’s crucial to plan your family travel on a budget. You should not overbook yourself, and pack only the essentials. Buy a small souvenir that will remind you of the place. The Ruhls really love collecting souvenirs too and their favorite type is a mug!
Prioritize your spending
While it’s true that you can’t go on vacation without spending money, it’s important to prioritize your spending. Zach believes that traveling is all about experiences, so you should want to spend money on experiences instead of things.
Make sure that whatever money is left over after paying for everything else goes toward your travel fund so that when the time comes for another adventure, there’ll be no worries about where all the dough went.
Perfection is overrated
Perfection is overrated. Zach and Julie have been able to travel to so many countries with their daughter because they prioritize living in the moment.
When you have a family, it’s easy to get caught up in planning the perfect trip and then feel like you’re never going anywhere because there are so many things that could go wrong. But if you can let go of those worries and enjoy your time together as a family, that’s what matters most! So don’t stress about perfection – just have fun on your next adventure!
